Palestine on Saturday extended its state of emergency to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant in the Palestinian territories.
The extension came after the Palestinian health ministry recorded last week 22 new cases of the Delta variant.
On Saturday, the ministry reported 83 new COVID-19 cases, one death and 137 recoveries in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip during the past 24 hours.
The state of emergency was first issued in March 2020 after the discovery of the first COVID-19 cases in the Palestinian territories, and has since been extended or re-declared every month.
The pandemic has so far claimed 3, 838 lives in the Palestinian territories.
