All parties vowed to ensure Dalit representation in elections

The political parties have made a collective commitment to ensure the representation of the Dalit community in the upcoming state and union elections. The major leaders of the party gave this commitment in a program held today in Birendranagar on the question of representation of the Dalit community in the elections.

The parties will evaluate the experience and work of Dalit people's representatives in the upcoming election on 4th of Mangsir and create an environment to reach higher positions, take initiatives to make the presence of the Dalit community effective, create an environment for Dalit people's representatives to work without hindrance, both party and legal action procedures if party workers are found to have committed caste discrimination. He has promised to move forward.

The commitment letter was signed by Kali Bahadur Sahakari, Karnali Province Vice Chairman of Nepali Congress, Ammar Bahadur Thapa, Provincial President of CPN (Unified Socialist), Parvati Vick, Provincial President of CPN (Maoist Center) Dalit Mukti Morcha and Tekendra Kumar Basnet, Provincial Member of CPN (UML). In the discussion, Congress State Vice President Sahakari said that everyone's sincere efforts are needed to bring the backward Dalit and marginalized communities into the mainstream of the state.

Thapa, the state president of the United Samajwadi Party, expressed the view that the participation of the Dalit community in the local government is promising. Rights activist Vasant BK complained that apart from the constitutional obligation, political parties did not show interest in the meaningful participation of the Dalit community. The participants of the program expressed the opinion that it is possible to make the participation of the Dalit community decisive and meaningful only with the will of the leaders of the major parties.
