As cases of people being infected with the coronavirus has surged quite considerably Banepa Municipality of Kavrepalanchowk district has decided to seal the city from midnight today. A meeting held on Monday between the elected representatives and concerned authorities who have been involved in the fight against the COVID-19 took a decision to this effect.
As infections have been rising at a rapid pace we have decided to seal the municipality for a week, said Laxmi Narsingh Wade, Mayor of Banepa Municipality. He informed that everything will be locked down from midnight today till midnight of May 26.
According to Mayor Wade, only pharmacies and hospitals will be allowed to open during this period. Even shops selling vegetables and groceries will be closed. The municipality has also decided to shut down banks and financial institutions. People will also not be allowed to go for morning walks, according to Wade.
The municipality has also appealed to authorities involved in waste management and providing telephone, internet, and electricity services to operate their offices with the minimum number of staff and by adopting all the health safety measures.
