Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Monday reported 9,198 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 464,218. Additionally, 49 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.
Likewise, the Health Ministry has also recorded 214 deaths from COVID-19 including the data from COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) and Nepali Army's dead body management statistics in the past 24 hours. As of Monday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 5,215. The ministry had reported 225 deaths, the highest daily numbers, on May 11. Presently, there are 113,480 active cases in Nepal.
Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 3,098 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu registered 2,346 cases, Lalitpur 454 cases and Bhaktapur registered 298 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.
Likewise, 79 persons succumbed to COVID-19 in the valley — 51 persons in Kathmandu, 14 in Lalitpur and another 14 in Bhaktapur — in 24 hours.
As many as 5,767 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Monday, a total of 345,523 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 74.4 per cent.
Earlier, the MoHP on Sunday had reported 7,316 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 455,020.
As of Monday, a total of 2,792,673 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 113,480 persons staying in isolation while 708 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.
More than 163.02 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 3,517,109 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December, a Reuters tally showed as of 11:28 am, on Monday, May 17, 2021.
The World Health Organisation referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
