Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Poudel said that children of 4 to 12 years age group would be vaccinated against COVID-19 at the earliest as per recommendation by the World Health Organization.
At a program organized by the Reporters’ Club on Saturday, Minister Poudel said that vaccination drive would not adversely affect the education sector which was already badly affected due to third wave of COVID-19.
“We have made public the examination schedule of SEE to not hamper the educational sector. We will conduct +2 Exams after the local level election. We have arranged vaccines for all students,” the Minister assured.
The incumbent coalition government has announced to hold the local level election on May 13 this year in a single phase.
He also shared that he took forward the vacancy announcement and promotion of 18,000 teachers since he assumed the post of Minister. Besides this, he launched slew of programs aimed at reforming public education system.
The examination system of the Tribhuvan University (TU) has been reformed, the Minister assured, adding that decision was made to construct Teachers' Hospital in Chitwan and Central Library of TU at Jamal, Kathmandu.
Also, medical schools taking exorbitant fees from the students have been made aware. The bills relating to higher education, federal education and technical education would be forwarded for deliberation once the parliamentary impasse is cleared, he said.
According to him, they were preparing to effectively implement the ‘Padhdai padhaudai’ (Earning while learning) program in all levels. He also assured that education sector would get 20 percent of the total annual budget from the upcoming fiscal year.
