The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has lodged a case against former director general of Inland Revenue Department (IRD) Chudamani Sharma. The CIAA has filed a case at the Special Court against three people including Sharma and sought a penalty of over Rs 1 billion.
The CIAA has lodged the case against Sharma for his involvement in corruption on fixation of revenue. He has been accused of unlawful exemption of tax for various business people. The anti-graft body has filed the case at the Special Court on charge of corruption and while holding public post. The case has also been filed against disproportionate accumulation of assets.
According to an investigation conducted by the CIAA, Sharma had exempted taxes of different business people under various pretexts.
