The Government of Nepal has also given top priority to the distribution of passports according to the new system in Qatar, a destination for millions of Nepalese workers.

The electronic passport has been successfully produced by the Passport Department through live enrollment as a test from the Nepali Embassy, Doha, Qatar. This is the first electronic passport produced by a foreign mission. From today, the Embassy of Nepal in Qatar has opened the booking for electronic passports. Limited bookings are open for the first week.

Necessary equipment for electronic passports has been sent by the department to similar Nepali missions in other Gulf countries and Malaysia. The service of electronic passports will start in a few days as soon as the goods are connected.

Similarly, equipment is being sent to all Nepali missions in other countries and there is a program to operate the service within a few weeks.

In the case of Nepal, live enrollment for e-passport has started from 41 places including 36 District Administration Offices and 5 Area Administration Offices. In other districts, three technical teams are working on networking, connecting equipment and providing training.

By February 3, 2022, the MRP of the service recipients who have applied for MRP at this embassy will be prepared and distributed accordingly. The Passport Department has stated that the MRP holders do not need to make an e-passport as the MRP created in this way can be used for the duration of maintenance.

Children born in Qatar to Nepali parents who have applied for a passport for the first time have also been given an opportunity to apply for a passport.

Provision has been made for the service recipients applying in Qatar not to have a National Identity Card number.

If Nepali children under the age of 16 need a passport:

Provision has been made to submit the application along with the citizenship and marriage registration certificate of the father and mother.

Currently The Nepali embassy in Qatar has stated that the passport fee is still the same.
