Flood alert issued in Province 2, Lumbini in view of incessant rain

The 'very severe cyclonic storm' over northwest Bay of Bengal moves north-northwestwards

The Flood Forecasting Division has predicted the increase of river current in view of incessant rain owing to change in weather, as Cyclone Yaas, intensified into a "very severe cyclonic storm", has hit the north Odisha-West Bengal coast.

The water level in some of the rivers flowing through provinces including Province 1, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali could increase to alert level, the FFD has said, adding that the rivers in Province 2 and Lumbini Province could be flooded.

Further, the Division has urged to be on alert for possible flood and inundation in lower plains of Tarai districts in Province 2 and Lumbini Province from tonight till Saturday night.

The cyclone over northwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of about 15 kilometres per hour at 5:30 am on Wednesday over the northwest Bay of Bengal near latitude 20.8 degrees north and longitude 87.3 degrees east, about 40km east of Dhamra, 90km south-southwest of Balasore (Odisha) and 90km south-southwest of Digha (West Benga), according to India Meteorological Department.
