Police arrested four members of a family involved in killing their newborn baby in Morang district on Monday.
The arrested have been identified as the deceased girl's mother Khusbu Mandal (25), father Arun Mandal (28), grandfather Nageshwor Mandal (50) and grandmother Urmila Mandal (48), the residents of Amgaachi tole in Rangeli Municipality-5 in the district.
According to police, Khusbu on Sunday night gave birth to a girl whom she killed by squeezing with a blanket. Subsequently, the newborn baby was buried inside the liquor shop owned by her father. The police investigation showed that they had dug a hole to bury the child in the liquor store in Rangeli-5.
Acting on a tip-off, local Area Police Office arrested them and also charged them with murder. Further investigation is underway after extending the custody to five days from Morang District Court, informed the DPO.
