KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has instructed an investigation into the unauthorized release of a photo showing Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane in police custody.
Minister Lekhak has also called for swift action against those responsible for the leak. On Thursday, he directed Police Chief Basanta Bahadur Kunwar to probe the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable, irrespective of their position.
The issue came to light on Wednesday evening when supporters of the Rastriya Swatantra Party shared a photograph of Lamichhane inside a detention cell on social media. In response, the Home Ministry issued a statement requesting the police to verify the authenticity of the image.
Minister Lekhak confirmed that he had ordered the police chief to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action against those involved. “I have directed the IGP to investigate the matter and bring those responsible to justice,” he stated.
Police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Bishwa Adhikari, also confirmed that an investigation had been launched into the unauthorized release of the photo.
