Landslides and flood causes damage of Rs 41 million

The unseasonal rains in October have caused a total loss of Rs 416.1 million in Morang. According to the Koshi & Bakraha River Management Project, landslides and floods have cut 3,370 meters in Bakraha, causing a loss of Rs 168.6 million.

Project Chief Kailash Shrestha informed that the loss was Rs 82.5 million by cutting 3,250 meters in Lohandra River, Rs 126 million by cutting three 15 meters in Chisyang River and Rs 44.40 million by cutting 1,110 meters in Dasbaraha River.

Shrestha said that if the rivers are not controlled and embanked in time, the residents living near the river area will have to bear additional loss of life and property. The project was established for the management of five rivers including Koshi. Krishna Khatiwada, an engineer of the project, said that there was a lack of sufficient budget for the work.

Similarly, for the current year, river control and management work is being carried out at six places in Bakraha. According to Chamber Of Industries Morang (CIM), 41 industries in Sunsari and Morang Industrial Corridor have suffered losses of Rs 2.47 billion due to rains and floods. Sanitation and waste management has suffered a loss of Rs. 171.65 million.

Bhilananda Yadav, Chief of Sunsari Morang Irrigation Project, said that the canal collapsed at four places of Chatara and other 14 places under 20 branches due to floods. As many as 72 people were killed in the floods and landslides in the state. Twelve people have gone missing, 40 houses have been completely damaged, 1,825 houses have been partially damaged, 10,000 hectares of paddy fields have been destroyed and about 50,000 hectares of paddy fields have been partially damaged.
