Law Day-2080 BS observed

The Supreme Court here today celebrated the Law Day organizing an event on its premises.

In attendance at the event were Vice-President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly President Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affair Dhanraj Gurung.

Also, present on the occasion were former Chief Justices, Justices of the Supreme Court, Chiefs of the constitutional bodies, members of the Judicial Council, Attorney-General and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Nepal among others.

Nepal Bar Association's President Gopal Krishna Ghimire, Supreme Court Bar Association President Hari Shankar Niraula and senior advocates among others had also participated in the event.

On the occasion, Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court Lal Bahadur Kunwar expressed his confidence that the Law Day would provide everyone with more energy and encouragement to contribute from respective sides for the development of a strong and credible judicial system through the prompt, impartial, effective and quality justice delivery.

Chief Registrar Kunwar said, "The 'Nepal Pradhan Nyayalaya Act' holds a special importance to establish modern judiciary system as well as to institutionalize the rule of law and establish free judiciary through structural reforms of the judiciary".

The Law Day is marked in commemoration of the day the 'Pradhan Nyayalaya', Supreme Court, was established in the country. With the introduction of Nepal Supreme Act-2008 BS, the Supreme Court was set up on Baisakh 26, 2009 BS.

He expressed happiness and pride of the judiciary family for being able to celebrate the Day with great significance in the presence of dignified guests.

The judiciary, even in the extremely difficult circumstances, has been keeping intact the values of independent judiciary while protecting the rights of the citizens and ensuring law of rule. ---
