MoHP records 3,540 new COVID cases, 32 deaths on Sunday

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Sunday  confirmed the detection of 3,540 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 950,441. Additionally, 1,586 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded 32 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 184 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Sunday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 11,735. Presently, there are 83,999 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley alone have recorded 1,778 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 1,232 cases, Lalitpur logged 379 cases and Bhaktapur logged 167 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 6,359 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Sunday, a total of 854,707 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 89.9 percent while the fatality rate is 1.4 percent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Saturday confirmed the detection of 4,904 new cases of coronavirus infection.

As of Sunday, a total of 5,219,506 people have undergone the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 82,369 people staying in isolation while 139 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

373,131,510 people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 5,676,131 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in 2019-December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 132 countries where The United States is the new hotspot of COVID-19 facing a daily surge of rapid infections.
