Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka acknowledged the current epidemic as a common global problem and called on the international community to make concerted efforts to make vaccination accessible and affordable.

Addressing a high-level debate on global immunization organized by the President of the United Nations General Assembly here today, he said that global immunization is a reliable means of preventing the spread of the disease. The Foreign Minister stressed the need to focus on promoting fair vaccination.

Presenting the fact that poor countries are facing huge economic challenges due to the Covid-19 epidemic, Minister Khadka said that flexible and people-centred recovery plans and mobilization of resources are essential for those countries to revive their economies.

Giving information about the progress made in vaccination in Nepal, he said that the target has been set to vaccinate all the citizens above 12 years of age by mid-April. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the neighbours and other allies, development partners and Gavi Kovacs for their generous assistance in providing vaccines to Nepal.

The debate has been organized by the chairperson of the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations with the focus on 'Freedom from Covid-19'. The event was attended by leaders from more than 120 countries.
