PM Deuba insists on proper use of anti-microbial drugs

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged one and all to be especially attentive while using the anti-microbial drugs.

The Prime Minister has insisted on the proper use of drugs under the categories of anti-microbial. Extending his best wishes to one and all on the occasion of the World Anti-Microbial Awareness Week, the Prime Minister said that increase in public awareness is required to promote the precise use of antimicrobial drugs and thus to contain microbial resistance and prevent the infection risk with AMR among the community.

Describing the microbial resistance as the issue of multi-dimensional impacts, the Prime Minister echoed the need of collective efforts to address the issue. He also called on all the bodies concerned to assess the ‘One Health’ approach as their agenda of high concern and come up with substance action plans for its implementation and promotion.

The AWR is a global weeklong event that is celebrated from November 18 to 25 each year all the call of the World Health Organisation, Food and Agriculture Organisation, World Veterinary Association and the UN Environment Programme under the United Nations.

Nepal is too observing the Week by organizing various events aimed to increase anti-microbial awareness.

Referring to the medical research, the Prime Minister said potential challenges to the achievements of modern medical science could not be avoided due to antimicrobial resistance, the Prime Minister stressed the need of stopping the haphazard use of antimicrobial drugs and its resistance

The gradual reduction in the effectiveness of the most of antimicrobial drugs has caused obstructions in the treatment of general and serious health issues and appearing as a global challenge for the entire world, according to the Prime Minister.
