President Bidya Devi Bhandari has stressed
the need for equal access for women to education, health and employment
opportunities to fulfil the goals of gender equality.
There is a need to make additional efforts
at the implementing level to ensure proportional participation of women in
politics and every public sector as guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal,
she said in a message of greetings on the occasion of 111th International
Women's Day.
On the occasion, the President extended the
message for happiness, peace and prosperity to all Nepali sisters at home and
abroad. "I wish may this day provide additional inspiration and
encouragement for rights activists to work actively for gender equality and to
ensure rights and respect for all women."
The theme for Nepal for the Day is
"Women's Security, Respect and Employment: the Basis for Nepal's
Prosperity".
Likewise, Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun
has extended a message of best wishes to all Nepali sisters at home and abroad
on the occasion of the 111th International Women's Day. "I wish may this
day bring happiness, peace and prosperity to all Nepali sisters," he said
in the message.
Similarly, Nepali Congress (NC) President
Sher Bahadur Deuba has also expressed his best wishes to all Nepalis women at
home and abroad on the occasion of International Women's Day.
In a message today, Deuba has stated that
women in Nepal are still suppressed, suffered and oppressed from the urban to
far-flung rural areas. "Violence is the biggest threat to democracy and
people's sovereignty. Violence is the biggest obstacle to the country economic
progress," Deuba mentioned in his message of the best wishes.
Deuba has expressed the confidence that the
International Women's Day would help awaken all the citizens to end all kinds
of violence against women.
