Sankhuwabhava bus accident: death toll reaches 14

14 people died when a passenger-ferrying bus en route to Damak, five people were rescued alive and bodies of 13 people have been so far recovered from the site

As many as 14 people died when a passenger-ferrying bus en route to Damak, Jhapa from Okharbote Bazaar of Madi, Sankhuwasava met with an accident at Madi Municipality-6, Saatghumti at 7.30 this morning.

Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) Laldhoj Subedi informed that bodies of 13 people have been so far recovered from the site. However, the identities of the deceased have yet to be ascertained, he added.

Five people were rescued alive from the accident site. According to the locals, the bus was carrying at least 20 passengers.

The bus fell down around 300 meters off the road. Detailed information about the accident is being collected, DSP Subedi informed.

Currently, security personnel and locals are engaged in rescue works.
