The Special Court has ordered the release of Bijay Kumar Gachhadar, Vice President of Nepali Congress, on bail of Rs 10 lakh. Gachhadar, who has been implicated in the Lalita Niwas land scandal, appeared before the court today. He had been previously refraining from appearing before the court.
Meanwhile, Gachhadar has paid the bail amount as directed by the Special Court and has been released.
A corruption case has been registered against 175 people including Gachhadar for being involved in transferring the government land of Lalita Niwas in Baluwatar in the names of various individuals. The Nepali Congress leader had been categorised as absconding in the related case for about a year.
Gachhadar was the Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport when the scandal apparently took place. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had registered a corruption case against Gachhadar seeking over Rs 96.57 million in penalty.
