Balkrishna Basnet, Chairman of the Press Council of Nepal, has said that there has been a growing trend of bargaining in journalism and writing news if self-interest is not fulfilled.
In a program organized for new online users in the council, he said that if vested interests are not fulfilled, the tendency to create news will weaken journalism, so it is necessary for everyone to coordinate to prevent such problems.
The council has kept some media under special surveillance. After providing enough evidence, such media will be punished by the code of conduct, said Chairman Basnet. He said that the council is taking steps against it by running a campaign as this problem has entered the online and YouTube channels as a disease of journalism. Press Council Nepal has completed the 18th series of orientations conducted for newly listed online.
Sagar Pandit, the editor of Rajdhani Daily as a subject expert in the program, said that online journalism has increased the challenge and said that many problems will be solved if certain values of journalism are followed.
