Term of 20 NA members terminating in March, 2022

The four-year term of one-third members of the National assembly including the Vice-Chairperson is going to be terminated on March 5, 2022.

The term of Vice-Chairperson Shashikala Dahal as well as Presidents of Thematic Committees—Taradevi Bhatta, Ram Narayan Bidari, and Parashuram Meghi Gurung is going to end.

Similarly, eight members of CPN (UML), four of CPN (Unified Socialist), four of CPN (Maoist Centre), and three of Nepali Congress are at the end of their term. Likewise, the four-year term of Bidari, nominated by the President as the subject matter expert is going to terminate on the same date.

The term of Agam Prasad Bantawa Rai, Udaya Sharma Poudel, Kabita Bogati, Khim Kumar BK, Chakra Prasad Snehi, Chakra Bahadur Khadka, Jeevan Budha, Dirgha Narayan Pandey, Thagendra Prakash Puri, Dinanath Sharma, Nainkala Ojha, Radheshyam Adhikari, Ram Lakhan Chamar, Shanti Kumari Adhikari, Sher Bahadur Kunwar, Suman Raj Pyakurel and Komal Oli, is coming to an end on March 5.

The term of the Upper House members whose term was fixed for four years through the lottery method on June 18, 2018, is terminating. Among the members whose four-year term is expiring, seven are women, three are from the Dalit community, two are from the people with disabilities or minorities and seven are from other groups.

Since the National Assembly is a permanent chamber, the term of one-third of its members expires every two years.

The term of the 59-member National Assembly which is the upper chamber of the bicameral Federal Parliament is of six years.

The Province Assembly members, the Chair and Vice-chair of the rural municipalities, the mayors and deputy mayors of municipalities, sub-metropolitan cities, and the metropolitan cities are the voters in the National Assembly election.

The government has already started before this that the date for the election to the one-third members posts would be announced in the near future through consensus among the political parties.

The law requires that the election should be held at least 35 days before the expiry of the term of the members. The National Assembly member should be 35 years of age. The National Assembly is also known as the elder's chamber.

The CPN (UML) had won 27 seats, Nepali Congress 13 seats, CPN (Maoist Centre) 12 seats, and the then Rashtriya Janata Party Nepal and the Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum two seats each in the election for the National Assembly held in 2017
