Three-day media camp stresses media-friendly laws

The three-day media camp organised by the FNJ Humla chapter has been over, stressing the need for media-friendly laws. It was organised with the assistance of the Department of Information and Broadcasting, Press Council Nepal, and the Minimum Wage Fixing Committee.

The camp also emphasised the promotion of journalism in the remote areas, unobstructed flow of information, free expression and journalists’ right to free reporting.

Inclusive journalism, promotion of tourism and prosperity via journalism, protection of diversity also featured significantly during the camp. Strengthening of media, implementation of Working Journalists’ Act, and proportional advertisement policy were other points incorporated in the declaration the camp issued after its completion. The camp decided to request the national and international media to disseminate positive news that contributes to prosperity.

All sides concerned should pay heed to uplift the status of journalists and media in remote area, said Council Chairperson Balkrishna Basnet. The declaration issued by the camp welcomed the government budget that introduced the free treatment to journalists and health insurance of Rs 700,000.

The camp was attended by Council Chairperson Basnet, member Dipak Pande, Committee Chairperson Rajendra Aryal, Chairperson of Nepal Press Union, Badri Sigdel, Director at Department of Information and Broadcasting, Bharat Gautam, and FNJ Secretary Govinda Chaulagain.
