Tiger census is starting in Bardiya-Banke National Park from today. The tiger census will be completed by mid-February.
Chief Conservation Officer of Bardia National Park Bishnu Prasad Shrestha explained how they will be using camera tapping technology for the census. Cameras will be placed in 722 in Bardiya and Banke National Parks for the tiger census along with 98 manpower including technicians will be deployed.
The tiger census started on the joint initiative of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), World Wide Fund Nepal (WWF) and Zoological Society of London, Nepal (ZSL).
Tigers census is done every four years. And now the Government of Nepal plans to double the number of tigers in Nepal to 250 by next year.
