Unique relations between Nepal-India due to social and cultural similarities

Leaders of different political parties, former ministers and former ambassadors have said the relationship between Nepal and India is unique due to geographical proximity as well as social and cultural similarities.

At a programme organised by the Nepal-India Friendship Society here on Monday on the occasion of the 75th Independence Day of India, the speakers shared that there is a special relationship between Nepal and India due to equal norms and values as well as 'Roti and Beti' relations.

Stating that friendly relations exist between people to people of both countries, they stressed the need of making these relations deeper, stronger and more fruitful.

On the occasion, Nepali Congress leader and former minister Arjun Narsingh KC said the time has come for Nepal to take benefit from India's prosperity and development. He also referred to the role and participation of Nepalis in the Indian freedom movement.

Similarly, the Chief of CPN (UML)'s Foreign Department, Dr Rajan Bhattarai expressed the view that the existing friendly and exemplary relations between the two countries should be made deeper, closer and fruitful.

Likewise, former Minister Hisila Yami, leader of Janata Samajbadi Party, Manish Suman, former Ambassadors to India, Deep Kumar Upadhyay and Prof Dr Lokraj Baral, former Chief Secretary Tirtha Man Shakya, among others expressed their views on the occasion.
