Nepali Congress (NC) leadership has been engaged in making efforts to resolve the issues of its active membership.
A meeting of the NC's former and current office-bearers held on Thursday handed over the responsibility of facilitating the remaining issues of the active membership of the party to the party leadership.
NC Active Membership Probe Committee formed by the party on Tuesday had submitted its report to party President Sher Bahadur Deuba. Though the committee had submitted a report with an amendment in the party meeting, there are still some disputes to this effect.
To resolve the contentious issues, party leaders, including President Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ramchandra Poudel and former general-secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula have been on parleys since early this morning, informed President Deuba's personal secretary Bhanu Deuba.
According to the NC office, the leadership would settle the remaining issues and submit a report to the party's central election committee and a new calendar would be made public for the conventions affected.
As informed number of active members in the Nepali Congress (NC) has reached 852,711, according to the report prepared by the Committee formed to investigate the active membership issue in the party.
It is said that the details of the active membership from Bara and Saptari district was received too late while there are some disputes to be resolved in Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Kavre, Dhanusha, Sarlahi and Kailali.
The upcoming national convention of the party scheduled from September 1-4 this year is likely to be affected adversely due to delay in addressing the dispute regarding active membership in the party.
The ward-level convention of the party was scheduled all over the wards in the country on July 27 but owing to the delay in sending the active membership to the wards, the ward-level conventions have been postponed. -
