ITF World Tennis: Saloni Tamang wins women's singles title

Nepal's Saloni Tamang has won the women's singles title in the ITF Girls' Boys U-18 World Yanking Tennis Tour J-5 Circuit-2. Tamang by defeating Sarbhani Shrestha of Nepal in a tiebreaker in the final held at Pokhara Tennis Complex today.

Tamang, who won the first set 6-4, lost the second set 4-6 and won the final set 6-1. Tamang also won the title of Skirt-1 last year.

The men's singles title was won by Laurent Gyuri of Hungary. He defeated Emilio Gialkowski of Sweden 6-3, 7-5 to win the title. In the men's doubles, Kabir and Daksha Prasad of India defeated Siddharth Lama and Mithra Barrett of the United States to clinch the title.

India's Niyati Kukreti and Hana Nagpal won the women's doubles title. Their pair defeated Riya Dugar and Tanushree Pandey of their own country. Member Secretary of Gandaki Pradesh Sports Council Tej Bahadur Gurung, Chairman of Kaski District Sports Development Committee Toran Bania, Chairman of Pokhara Metropolitan Sports Development Committee Deepak Godar, Central President of Nepal Tennis Association Jyoti Rana and others distributed medals and certificates to the winners.

Hem Bahadur Lama, who has made a significant contribution to the development of tennis, was honored at the closing ceremony, said Kaski District Tennis Association President Navin Shrestha. 88 players from 10 countries including Nepal participated in the competition organized by the District Tennis Association. The competition is organized in collaboration with the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
