The liaison officers assigned by the government for various mountaineering teams have to stay in the base camp till the end of the mountaineering season. The government has made arrangements for a liaison officer to be present for the climbers in the mountains above 6500 meters.

The tourism department has informed that if any liaison officer cannot reach the base camp, he/she should inform in advance. In the past, teams going to the mountains have been accompanied by government employees as well as police and army officers. Necessary attire, equipment and allowances will have to be provided to the visiting officer on behalf of the climbing team. The climbing team has to provide food, medicine and porters to the liaison officer during the ascent.

Despite all the facilities, the fact that some liaison officers do not reach the workplace has been a topic of discussion since the past. In the spring of 2019, 15 liaison officers were assigned with various teams to climb Mt. Everest but they failed to reach the base camp.

The government had also formed a committee to investigate the problem. The liaison officer has been given the responsibility by the Government of Nepal to solve any problem faced by the climbing team including proper management of garbage.

Liaison officers visiting the mountains in the Khumbu region, including Everest, must register at the office of the Everest Pollution Control Committee, and those visiting other mountains must register at the local village or ward office.

Rules have also been made for the liaison officer to submit photos and videos taken at the base camp with the climbing team after the ascent.
