Nepal, known for its beauty and is full of mountains, brings in most of its revenue from the tourism sector. With the country’s successful mountaineering season this spring, it is now time to get a reason for the autumn.

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), the organigation that looks after 27 mountains in the nation, has also elected a new president, Nima Nuru Sherpa. Sherpa has been in the tourism business since 1988. And before this, he was also the vice president of NMA, along with board members in Nepal Airlines and Altitude Air.

Talking to NepalNews, Sherpa talks about his plans as the new president of NMA.

“We have been planning to conduct a massive training for local and international mountaineers which will open up job opportunities for present and former mountaineers,” explains Sherpa. “As for the association, Nepal has a number of mountains that are undiscovered till now. NMA is already looking after 27 mountains in the nation. The Government of Nepal should give us the opportunity to name and take care of the unnamed mountains which will open up more opportunities for tourism,” adds Sherpa.

The newly-elected president also talks about how mountaineers need to get more respect from the nation. “As I heard recently how Nepali artists are going to be able to use the VIP room at the airport which is a great initiation. And we also need something similar for the climbers and mountaineers as well,” says Sherpa.
