Tara Air, a sister company of Yeti Airlines, will operate two flights a week from February 23 at Falgunanda Sukilamba Airport in Ilam.

Twenty years after the start of the construction process, Tara Air will start flying to Sukilamba from Kathmandu on Sundays and Thursdays, said Tara Air Spokesperson and Chief of Air Security Sudarshan Bartaula.

With the completion of the runway test, two regular flights a week will be operated at the airport on the joint initiative of the Nepal Tourism Board, Ilam Municipality, and Tara Air.

Even before the runway of the airport was blacktopped, the test flight was conducted by Tara Air's aircraft on June 4, 2018. The flights are scheduled to depart from Kathmandu at 11 am and from Ilam at 12:30 pm from February 23 onwards, said spokesperson Bartaula. The flight duration from Kathmandu to Ilam will be about one hour.

The current one-way fare for air travel has been fixed at Rs 9,000.

Chief of Ilam Municipality Mahesh Basnet expressed his gratitude for the initiative taken by the Tourism Board and Tara Air to operate flights. Ilam is considered a confluence of nature and culture. There is potential for eco-tourism, agro-tourism, tea tourism, religious-cultural tourism, and recreational tourism.
