Every year in April (Chaitra), the Seto Machindranath Jatra is celebrated in the Kathmandu Valley. The deity's image is paraded in a chariot around Kathmandu over a period of three days. The deity is bathed and repainted every year as a ritual that symbolizes the changes occurring throughout one's life.
Newars celebrate the Jatra with musical instruments and great fanfare.
