KMC discusses garbage management

Local level people's representatives of Kathmandu Valley have said that Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) should take the lead for sustainable management of garbage.

In a joint meeting of local leaders of the Kathmandu Valley held at the National Assembly House on Monday, they proposed that the Kathmandu Metropolitan City should take the lead in sustainable management of waste management, traffic management, drinking water and sewerage system.

Deputy Chief of Budhanilkantha Municipality, said that there was a consensus in the meeting on the need to classify the waste as a source of waste, reduce production, increase the use of cloth bags as an alternative to plastic .

According to Deputy Chief, if the KMC provides resources for waste management, other local levels can manage the land.

In the meeting, Kathmandu Metropolitan Chief Balendra Shah (Balen) said that there are some common and different problems related to garbage in the municipalities of the Valley and a solution should be found through joint efforts.

"Let's find a solution to problems such as waste management, traffic management and drinking water distribution through joint efforts," he said.
