The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has called upon the individuals and bodies who let the public use their toilets to contact them within a week.
Those wishing to open their toilets in hotels, restaurants, banks, commercial buildings, malls, shopping complexes, companies, firms, businessmen and non-governmental organizations for the public are asked to contact the Public-Private Partnership Unit at Baber Mahal or the administration department of the metropolis.
The Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Balendra Shah had decided to use the private toilets in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City as public toilets. Following the decision, pictures of some people have come forward putting up a notice board with their toilets open to the public.
However, according to Kathmandu Metropolitan City spokesperson Basanta Acharya, efforts have been made to take it systematically. Acharya said that the corporation will formally sign an agreement with those who want to use their toilets for that. "They have to apply and we are preparing the framework for that," he said.
Acharya said that those who allow their toilets to be used in public should manage the water and sanitation required by the toilets themselves.
