142 cases of human rights violation reported in month: INSEC

The Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) has said that 142 cases of violations of human rights were reported in a period of one month (July 16-August 15) this year.

The monthly analysis report of the INSEC unveiled today, shows 108 females and 34 males suffered cases of violation of human rights in the month of Saun in the Nepali calendar.

According to the study of INSEC, the State was responsible for the four cases and the remaining 138 cases were carried out by other parties. Province 2 reports the highest cases of violations as the number stands at 49 followed by 25 in Province 1, 19 in Lumbini Province, 17 in Gandaki, 15 in Karnali, and six each in Bagmati and Sudurpaschim.

Of the cases, nine are related to spouse murder, four are about murders by families, one is about the murder after rape and two are related to the death in custody. Likewise, nine people including the human rights defender were physically assaulted, three were discriminated against on the ground of caste and one male was sexually assaulted. Similarly, 15 were hurt in the attacks against them.

Fifty-one of the total cases were concerned with the violation of child rights such as rape ( 39 cases), sexual harassment ( 10), trafficking (one), and failed trafficking (one).

Similarly, of the recorded cases, 39 were about the violation of women rights such as rape (20), five ( attempted rape), sexual abuses (three), forced sex trade (one), acid attack (one), an accusation of witchery (one) and domestic violence ( three), the INSEC report states.
