The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is preparing to carry out investigation into Buddha Air's flight safety operation after two of its aircraft met with technical glitches on Monday.

The ATR-72 aircraft of Buddha Air with the call sign 9N-ANI carrying 73 passengers and four crew members made an emergency landing in Kathmandu after its primary landing gear indicator reportedly malfunctioned while descending in Biratnagar today.

After the air traffic controller at Biratnagar Airport confirmed malfunction, the flight returned to Kathmandu on a secondary landing gear indicator and safely landed at the TIA, Buddha Air said in a statement.

The captain forcefully flew the plane over Kathmandu to reduce the fuel to ensure a comfortable landing. "The plane had to burn fuel over the sky to reduce the weight of the plane for the emergency landing," Dipendra Karna, communication manager with the airline informed.

Likewise, another aircraft with the call sign 9N-AJO en route from Kathmandu to Pokhara returned after its cockpit reportedly malfunctioned. The returned plane was checked in Kathmandu before it made the flight to the destination.

Rinji Sherpa, Chief of Flight Operation Department at Tribhuvan International Airport Civil Aviation Office, Kathmandu said the investigation will be carried out to find the cause of the malfunction and the person responsible. He has further said that action will be taken against those found guilty.

Meanwhile, Buddha Air has also stated that it is carrying out an internal investigation into the technical glitches.
