Pressure from citizens for post-graduate studies has increased in Rolpa. Neighboring districts have been offering post-graduate education for a long time, but the pressure from the citizens has increased saying that the stakeholders are not interested in it.
A religious festival was organized in 2072 BS for the operation of post-graduate level studies. More than Rs. 10 million was collected from the cash and land donations made by the locals during the festival. Locals have been alleging that Jaljala Multipurpose Campus, the organizing body of the festival, did not take any initiative even though it was said that post-graduate studies would be conducted immediately after the festival. After constant pressure from the citizens, the campus is ready to discuss the issue of starting post-graduate studies.
According to the then Campus Chief Vishnu Acharya, the campus was run with the money raised from the festival as per the decision of the Campus Management Committee. Acharya said that the salaries of the faculty and staff of the campus were managed from the donations raised from the festival. "Currently, there is a saving of Rs 2.2 million in the form of a revolving fund. The rights have not been transferred due to land donation.
The locals have complained that it is sad to spend the budget elsewhere instead of the purpose for which the religious festival was held. "The main objective of the festival was to conduct post-graduate level but it has not been conducted till now," said Krishna Bahadur Ghartimagar, a local social worker.
Journalist Mahesh Neupane said that this is a positive aspect as the campus has shown interest in running the postgraduate level again after a long time. Students are required to move out of the district for postgraduate studies. Rolpa, which has 405 community schools, has only two undergraduate campuses.
