Electronic payment services started in Baitadi

Three local levels of Baitadi have started electronic payment. Dasharathchanda Municipality, Shivnath and Dogadakedar Municipalities of the district have started electronic payment.

Padam Karki, Accounts Officer of Dogadakedar village informed that the payment system has been introduced through the local accumulated fund management system (formula) and electronic payment has been started. As transactions thorough checks have been cumbersome, the amount to be paid will now be credited directly to the payee's account.

The Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General has instructed all the local levels to go for an electronic payment system from July 20. The three municipalities have started electronic payment a month ago. Chief Administrative Officer of Dogadakedar village, Bhanubhakta Bhatta, said that the problem of errors in checks, mismatch of signatures and the problem of having to go to the municipality to collect checks has come to an end.

Karnasingh Saund, chairman of Shivnath village, is confident that with the introduction of electronic payment, consumers will no longer have to take checks for payment and will be helped to maintain transparency and good governance. He said, "We believe that electronic payment system will help in maintaining good governance, financial discipline and accountability. Electronic transactions will be faster than check transactions and we will be able to work effectively with less manpower by reducing procedural hassles." Other local levels of the district have also stated that they are preparing to start electronic payment services.
