Government of Japan's support important for Nepal's development: Foreign Minister

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Narayan Khadka said that the assistance provided by the Japanese government was important for the development of Nepal. Addressing the 48th anniversary celebration of Nepal JICA Alumni Association (JAN) in Kathmandu today, he said that Japan, one of the major donors, was providing unconditional support to Nepal.

Stating that Japan has provided significant assistance to Nepal even in disasters and epidemics, Minister Khadka stressed on the need for Nepal to learn a lot from its development. He informed that even though Nepal-Japan relations established in 1956 AD, Japan has been providing assistance to Nepal years prior to that. Minister Khadka said that Japan's priority to education and health at the initial stage led to a prosperous nation which is worth following for Nepal.

 He also urged the alumni to make full use of the knowledge, skills and abilities learned in Japan. Minister Khadka said, "You are the intellectual property for Nepal, you are also the economic, social and cultural ambassadors, it should be put to good use." He also said that there is a lot to learn from the interesting history of Japan.

The Association is an organization of Nepalis who have returned from study tours and training in Japan. It has been contributing to the strengthening and development of Nepal-Japan friendship. Founded in 1973, the association has 1,300 Nepali members working in Japan. The association has been assisting the visiting Nepalis in various fields including agriculture, education and health in Lalitpur, Sindhupalchok and other areas. President of the Association Ram Chandra Bhusal, Vice President Kedar Poudel, General Secretary Shantilakshmi Shakya, Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Kikuta Yutakal and others were also present in the program.
