The government is going to ban plastic bags from August 17.
According to the Department of Environment, the import, sale, distribution and use of plastic bags thinner than 40 microns will be banned.
The use of it will be strictly monitored and action will be taken against those who use plastic bags according to the law. Even though the government banned plastic thinner than 40 microns a year ago, its production and use have not stopped.
The department said that due to the indiscriminate dumping of such plastic in rivers and streams, the river has been polluted and it has accumulated in the pipes, causing problems in drainage.
