The top leaders of major political parties are scheduled to address the first meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR).
The agenda was decided in an all-party meeting summoned by the senior most HoR member Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana in the building of the federal parliament in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu today to gather consensus on the agenda of the first HoR meeting.
The all-party meeting also agreed to convene meetings as per the old regulations regarding meetings of the HoR until the new one was put in place. The HoR is holding its first meeting at 1 pm on coming January 9.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' is scheduled to take the vote of confidence on the following day. An agreement was reached in today's all-party meeting to take forward the process for the same.
Similarly, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the HoR will be picked within a fortnight of the first meeting of the HoR. Towards this, an agreement was forged to pick Speaker on coming January 24 and Deputy Speaker on January 26, informed Nepali Congress chief whip Ramesh Lekhak.
Present in today's meeting were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Narayan Kaji Shrestha, chief whip of Nepali Congress Ramesh Lekhak, CPN (UML)'s Vice-Chairperson and former Speaker Subash Nemwang among others.
Also, the meeting was attended by CPN (Maoist Centre)'s chief whip Hitraj Pandey, Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal's leader Pradeep Yadav, Lokatantrik Samajwadi Party Chairperson Mahantha Thakur, Rashtriya Janamorcha Chairperson Chitra Bahadur KC and CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Prakash Jwala among others.
