Mother-daughter duo found dead in Rautahat

A mother and her daughter have been found dead at Pataura of Maulapur Rural Municipality-4 in Rautahat district today.

Kabita Devi, 24, was found dead under the stairs outside while her 2-year-old dead daughter Aruhi was found hanging in a ceiling fan, according to the District Police Office, Rautahat.

DSP and Spokesperson at the DPO, Rautahat, Uma Shankar Prasad Yadav, informed that deceased Kabita's spouse Dhirendra Shah and father-in-law Nagendra Shah were absconding following the incident.

Police have taken Kabita's mother-in-law and her sister-in-law under their control for further investigation. The natal family of Kabita has accused of murdering Kabita under the pretext of dowry.

Deceased Kabita's natal house lies at Mithuawa village of Madhav Narayan Rural Municipality-5 in the district. Father of the deceased, Bijay Shankar Shah, rushed to his daughter's home as soon as he got the news of the demise. He lamented that he was allowed to see the dead body of his daughter and granddaughter after a long time of incident. According to him, his daughter and son-in-law often used to have a tiff surrounding dowry.

He divulged, "Kabita used to share that her spouse Dhirendra used to repeatedly demand bed, gold ring, cash and gold chain as a dowry."

Police is currently keeping the record of the incident with witness account while no complaint was filed from the deceased Kabila's natal family side yet, police added.
