Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed the concerned officials to work efficiently and effectively to provide relief to people who have been affected by the recent floods and landslides in Sindhupalchowk district. He also directed the officials to work on risk disaster management.

PM Oli gave this direction today during a meeting with the representatives of the provincial committee of Bagmati Province of CPN UML.

The prime minister said that the recent natural disaster in Sindhupalchowk district concerned human lives so all work related to rescue and relief must be done on humanitarian basis and there should be no politics involved in such work. He also said the government is aware that Bailey bridges need to be set up immediately where existing bridges had been damaged.

He also mentioned that sirens should be installed to alert locals beforehand if there is a danger of floods. The prime minister added retention mechanisms must be built to halt the floods from washing away land. He further stated that temporary shelters must be immediately built for those who have been displaced.

PM Oli also stressed that relief must be provided according to the needs of the locals. He mentioned that just providing a few packets of noodles is not enough and directed the officials to identify the real needs of the locals and provide relief accordingly.
