The Himalayan Foundation Corp. New York & California, which is active in social work, today handed over a temporary house built for flood victims in Helambu.

The Himalayan Foundation is constructing 10 houses for flood victims in Helambu. The building has been handed over to Ram Bahadur Bharti of Helmu Gaonpalika-3 Palchowk today. The handover ceremony was attended by Harry Bhandari, a legislator from Maryland, USA, and Yagya Lal Shrestha, the founder of the foundation.

Last October, an agreement was signed between Helmu village chairperson Neema Galgen Sherpa and Shrestha, the founder of the Himalayan Foundation, to build a house. Rs. 400,000 has been spent per household, according to sources.

"Even living in the United States, I am happy to help the flood victims, remembering my hometown," Bhandari said at the event.

Shrestha, the founder of the foundation, said that he was very upset when some incidents took place in Sindhupalchowk as he was born and raised in the same place. Many wards of Melamchi Municipality and Helambu Municipality had suffered heavy loss of life and property due to the floods in July and August last year.
