Congress election: 600 votes cast, voting takes almost an hour

Voting is being held on Monday under the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress. According to Tej Rawal, a member of the Election Committee, about 600 votes were cast in the polling which started two hours later than the scheduled time of 9 o'clock.

The General Convention will elect several members of a new Central Working Committee for the Nepali Congress.

Two polling booths have been set up at Bhrikuti Mandap and one at the National Assembly Hall. According to the Election Committee, it took 45 to 55 minutes for one person to cast his vote due to a large number of candidates. There are more than 480 candidates for 134 posts including office bearers and members of the Central Committee.

Sher Bahadur Deuba, Shekhar Koirala, Prakash Man Singh, Vimalendra Nidhi, and Kalyan Gurung are vying for chairmanship.
