Prime Minister and Chancellor of National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) KP Sharma Oli has urged the scientists to work on discovery and research.
Addressing the 44th academician assembly of NAST at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar today, he expressed the view that science technology should be developed considering the current situation and future possibility.
Our current speed is not encouraging without any determination and goal, and we tend to take satisfaction over it. "Those in power just wish to remain in power. And those out of power just concentrate on ways to gain power and later try to only stick to it," he said.
Saying the country, which had built the first hydropower plant in South Asia around 111 years ago, is now lagging behind, he urged the scientists not to forget that they are the generation of inventors.
Similarly, addressing the Assembly, Minister for Education, Science and Technology, and Pro-Chancellor of NAST, Krishna Gopal Shrestha, said that NAST should pay attention to the capacity development of scientists and creating an easy and smooth environment for scientific research in the country in days ahead.
Vice-Chancellor of NAST, Dr Sunilbabu Shrestha, shared that NAST is active in the development and expansion of technology connected with Nepali society for prosperity.
Shrestha added that a control centre has been set up at the NAST this time to establish contact with ‘NepaliSat-1’, the first satellite of Nepal.
He stated that homework is being done to establish Building Research Centre, Space research Centre and Traditional Technology Centre in near future.
The Assembly has decided to award Dr Sher Bahadur Pun, Anup Kumar Shrestha, Reshma Tuladhar, Govinda Prasad Pokharel and Natikaji Maharjan among others associated with science and technology.
Similarly, the Assembly decided to award a person for agriculture-related scientific work from next year.
