Situated in Kupondole, Lalitpur just a few meters above Hotel Greenwich Village is a cozy little red building, the haven for pizza lovers. The two-story building gives a homely vibe inviting people walking on the streets to step in. The moment you enter the cozy eatery you’ll be greeted with the amazing aroma of pizzas and pictures of different places and artifacts of New York. The place is packed with cozy little tables and chairs made of bamboo.
“Chery’s New York Style Pizza is my second restaurant. I started my business with a bakery store but as I got more involved in the food industry, I wanted to switch from sweet to savory to uplift my business and right now I’m running my business with a unique menu,” says Anuth Prasai, owner of Chery’s New York Style Pizza.
When asked about which pizza he usually suggests to customers, he said, “I always suggest customers try our Chicken Lover Pizza which is also called Fifth Avenue. When they taste it they fall in love with the unique taste of our New York special sauce.”
This pizza place has three panels in their menu, two of which are Build Your Own menu and the other, their Specialty Pizza. In the Build Your Own menu, customers are free to make their own style of pizza choosing from a variety of sauces, toppings, and herbs they offer.
They have seven different sauces on their menu: New York Special Sauce, Original Marinara, Garlic sauce, Choila sauce, BBQ sauce, Hot sauce, and Alfredo sauce. For the Specialty Pizza, they have 10 pre-set pizzas. Each of them is named after the special attractions of New York state: Empire State, Statue of Liberty, Time Square, Manhattan, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge and others. And all of them have a unique taste complementing and celebrating their name
I got to taste their specialty pizza, the one recommended by the owner, an 18-inch Fifth Avenue which is made with New York special sauce, chicken, chicken sausage, chicken ham, chicken salami, chicken pepperoni along with their secret spices. Even though the pizza didn’t look cheesy enough at all to me, the taste of the pizza removed all earlier doubts I might have had. The crust was so thin it bent when picked it up. The flavor, taste and smell were all very different from most pizzas around town.
Apart from pizza they also have Garlic Bread, cheesy Garlic Bread, Roasted Chicken, Normal Garlic Bread with herbs (for those who are health conscious), and Grilled Sausage.
“I am planning to open different branches in different parts of the valley, and outside it too. I have already started preparing for the next store in Thamel, in front of Garden of Dreams, and for other locations outside valley, I’m planning to open it in Pokhara and Chitwan,”says Prasai.
As we were enjoying the pizza, Prasai shared that they also serve vegan pizza for those who want. At first, they were hesitating but when a vegan couple came to their store looking for it and gave positive feedback; they added the vegan pizza to their menu. “I am even planning to make pizza with buckwheat dough to let people enjoy the pizzas even if they have diet restrictions and health complications,” he adds.
On special occasion they offer discounts and deals to maintain and encourage customer loyalty. Recently they started an ongoing challenge where two people have to finish a 20-inch pizza within 3 minutes. “They will get 15% discount if they are successful in completing the challenge and they will also get a 10% discount coupon for Wash and Wax automated car wash which is in Gairidhara. The offer is valid for 10 days.” says Prasai
Prasanna Sapkota, a customer there says, “I like the crust of their pizza the most. It is so thin and the choice of toppings they have on their menu is great. Apart from pizza, I like how cozy this place is and the paintings and pictures they have hung on their walls. The price is also reasonable compared with the quality of food they provide.”
