KATHMANDU: International Human Rights Day is being marked today with various events held nationwide to honor the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
The theme for this year is "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now." The Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs has announced plans to recognize individuals and organizations that have made notable contributions to human rights.
These awards are funded through the Human Rights Award Fund, created under the Human Rights Award Fund Operation Regulation, 2075.
However, no awards will be given this year, as the Ministry did not identify any recipients who met the necessary criteria and procedures.
Komal Bahadur Khatri, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson for the Ministry, mentioned that a study is underway to evaluate the possibility of increasing the award amount.
