Police seized Rs 10 million worth of smuggled goods in two days

Police seized Rs 10 million worth of illegal goods in two days while they were being smuggled into Nepal from India.

Police seized biscuits, betel nuts, clothes, and motor parts (including three vehicles) on Tuesday and Wednesday while evading customs. Police on Wednesday found eight large rolls of cloth, 31 small rolls, five motor guards, two sacks of clothes, two sacks of large cloth bags, and three sacks of small parts of motor parts brought from Birtamod on Wednesday, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Basanta Pathak.

He said that the car (WB 74 P 1455) and the pickup vehicle (Ko 1 Ja 2440) were parked at Bhadrapur Road, Birtamod-4, and when these vehicles were searched given items are recovered.  

According to the District Police Office, both the vehicles and their belongings were valued at Rs 4 million and handed over to the Inland Revenue Office, Itahari for necessary action.

Police also seized a pickup van with illegal betel nuts on Tuesday night. A police team deployed from District Police Office, Jhapa, and Area Police Office, Kakadvitta recovered 29 bags of betel nuts from a pickup van (May 1 Cha 4980) heading towards Tiringkhola via Kankadvitta from Budhabare. The betel nut is worth Rs. 570,000 without VAT bill and Rs. One hundred thousand worth of vehicles is submitted to the Tax office of Itahari

Similarly, the police handed over Rs 2 million worth of illegal biscuits and Rs 2.5 million worth of Indian containers to the Mechi Customs Office on Tuesday.
