Senior ophthalmologist and executive director at the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, Dr. Sanduk Ruit, has been honored with Isa Award for Service to Humanity, a prestigious award in Bahrain.
According to the Institute's public relation officer Sunita KC, Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa honored Dr. Ruit amid a program organized in Bahrain earlier today.
The Award carries a purse of USD 1 million has been conferred on Dr. Ruit in recognition of his contribution to eliminating blindness through (cataract) surgery.
The award instituted in the name of the former King of Bahrain, Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa in 2009 is being distributed by the Isa Award for Service to Humanity organization for those contributing remarkably to humanity.
Altogether 145 organizations and candidates from across the world applied for the award. Dr. Ruit was selected from the six short-listed candidates, it was shared.
Dr. Ruit has devised a new method for treating cataracts. The Institute that he leads has been producing intraocular lenses of international standards at a fairly low price to treat blindness.
