The Surkhet High Court has issued a short-term interim order to immediately postpone the election process of the Surkhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Acting Chief Justice of the High Court, Shesh Raj Siwakoti, has ordered to immediately postpone the election process scheduled for April 9.
Dissatisfied businessmen had locked the association's office after the election process was moved forward amid a membership dispute. The dispute has reached the court after the union unilaterally made the election schedule public. The association has been in dispute since last January over the issue of renewal of membership which was revoked as per the constitution.
Entrepreneur Surendra Kumar Malla had filed a writ petition in the court demanding to stop the election process of the association. Hearing the preliminary hearing on the writ today, the court has summoned both the parties for discussion on the interim order. Senior Advocate Bhushan Kumar Manandhar, Advocates Vidya Bhushan Manandhar and Lok Bahadur Shah argued on behalf of the petitioner. The court has asked the opposition district administration office, including the high government prosecutor's office, to submit evidence with reasons within 15 days if the petitioner has to issue an order to stop the election.
